How they differ

1. 바뀌다 = A is replaced by B. Schedules, passwords, traffic lights, managers: 시간이 3시로 바뀌었어요 ○ / 시간이 3시로 변했어요 ✕. It also covers mix-ups: 가방이 바뀌었어요 (our bags got swapped).

2. 변하다 = the thing itself changes in nature. 마음이 변했어요 (his feelings changed), 맛이 변했어요 (it tastes off), 동네가 안 변했어요. It describes quality changing from within, often over time.

3. 달라지다 = different compared with before. When you notice a change: 많이 달라졌네요! (You’ve changed a lot!) ◎. 많이 변했네요 also works but can hint at a change in character; 많이 바뀌었네요 is less natural about a person.

4. English “change” is also a transitive verb — Korean isn’t. All three are intransitive. “I changed my number” is 번호를 바꿨어요 ○ / 번호를 변했어요 ✕ / 번호를 바뀌었어요 ✕. Transitive “change” = 바꾸다.
