When to use it

The form follows the modifier system: verbs take -는 바이다, completed actions -(으)ㄴ 바이다. Stems in ㄹ drop it, and 바 is a noun taking a space.

It marks the sentence as a formal act rather than a report — thanking, declaring, requesting, undertaking: 깊이 감사드리는 바입니다.

A small set of verbs accounts for most of it: 감사드리다, 밝히다, 요청하다, 촉구하다, 약속하다, 사과드리다 — all verbs of public speech.

The register is that of statements and addresses. Applied to ordinary description it sounds pompous.

In use

1. 여러분의 노고에 깊이 감사드리는 바입니다.

   I extend my deep thanks for your efforts.

2. 회사의 입장을 다음과 같이 밝히는 바입니다.

   The company hereby states its position as follows.

3. 조속한 시정을 촉구하는 바입니다.

   We call for prompt corrective action.

4. 이미 여러 차례 말씀드린 바입니다.

   This is something I have already stated on several occasions.

5. 부품을 직접 만드는 바, 품질은 저희가 책임집니다.

   As we make the parts ourselves, we stand behind the quality.

6. 깊은 유감의 뜻을 전하는 바입니다.

   We hereby convey our deep regret.

Compared with

• -(으)ㄴ/는 바

  Same noun, different position. 바 alone heads a relative clause — the thing that; 바이다 closes the sentence as a declaration.

  아는 바가 없습니다. (I know nothing of it)  /  감사드리는 바입니다. (I hereby thank you)

• -(으)ㄹ 따름이다

  Both are ceremonial closers. 따름이다 narrows a claim modestly; 바이다 elevates it into a formal act.

  감사할 따름입니다. (simply grateful)  /  감사드리는 바입니다. (I hereby thank you)

• -아/어 마지않다

  Both belong to formal addresses. 마지않다 amplifies a feeling; 바이다 formalises an act.

  축하해 마지않습니다. (warmest congratulations)  /  축하드리는 바입니다. (I hereby congratulate)

Watch out

• 부품을 직접 만들는 바입니다.

  부품을 직접 만드는 바입니다.

  Stems ending in ㄹ drop it before -는, as everywhere in the modifier system.

• 오늘 날씨가 좋은 바입니다.

  오늘 날씨가 좋습니다.

  바이다 marks a formal speech act. Ordinary description dressed in it sounds pompous.

• 여러분께 감사드리는바입니다.

  여러분께 감사드리는 바입니다.

  바 is a noun and takes a space after the modifier.
