WordCore meaningNuanceTypical pattern
다르다to be differentAdjective. Needs two things to compare; no right or wrong implied. 다른 = other.A와/과 B가 다르다
다른 사람
틀리다to be wrong, to get wrongVerb. There is a correct answer or rule; often in the past: 틀렸어요.답이 틀리다
문제를 틀리다

How they differ

1. Comparison vs correctness. 한국 음식과 일본 음식은 달라요 (Korean and Japanese food are different) just compares. 답이 틀렸어요 (the answer is wrong) checks against a correct answer. Ask yourself: is there a right answer? If not, use 다르다.

2. Don’t copy what you hear. Many Koreans say 생각이 틀려요 in casual speech to mean “we think differently”, but this is treated as an error. In writing, exams and polite speech: 생각이 달라요 ○ / 생각이 틀려요 ✕.

3. Adjective vs verb. 다르다 is an adjective and follows the 르 irregular: 달라요. 틀리다 is a verb and takes an object: 문제를 틀렸어요 (I got the question wrong) ○ / 문제를 달랐어요 ✕.

4. 다른 means “other”. Before a noun, 다른 often means “another / other”: 다른 사람 (someone else), 다른 색 (a different color). 틀린 means “wrong”: 틀린 답 (a wrong answer).
