How they differ

Crossing them is wrong: English “hate” takes an object, which pushes learners toward 을/를 with 싫다.

2. Other people → 싫어하다. 싫다 is a feeling only the speaker can report directly.

3. “I don’t want to” = -기 싫다. (I don’t want to get up) is about right now. (I hate getting up early) is about your habits.

4. 싫어요 as a refusal. On its own, 싫어요! is a blunt “No!” or “I don’t want to!”. It sounds childish or rude to a superior; use 괜찮아요 or 다음에 할게요 to decline politely.

Common mistakes

싫다 is an adjective, so it takes 이/가, not 을/를 (or use 벌레를 싫어해요).

싫다 expresses the speaker’s own feeling; for another person use 싫어하다.
