When to use it
Attach -기 이를 데 없다 to an adjective stem — no vowel rule, no tense in front. 데 is a noun and takes spaces on both sides.
As with 짝이 없다, the feeling must be unwelcome. 이르다 here means to reach; 이를 데 없다 says there is nowhere further for the feeling to reach.
The difference between the two is small and mostly one of frequency. 짝이 없다 is the commoner phrase; 이를 데 없다 sounds a shade more literary and turns up more in older or more elevated prose.
A related everyday phrase, 더할 나위 없다, works the opposite way: it is praise.
