-는 한
as long as, so long as
Sets a condition that must hold for the rest to stay true. 한 means a limit — the boundary within which the statement applies.

When to use it
Attach -는 to a verb stem and follow with 한. Stems in ㄹ drop it: 만들다 gives 만드는 한. 한 is a noun and takes a space.
It takes verbs, not adjectives, and the negative form is extremely common: 특별한 일이 없는 한 (barring anything unusual), 비가 오지 않는 한 (as long as it doesn’t rain).
Against -(으)면, this one stresses that the condition must keep holding. -(으)면 fires once; -는 한 lasts for as long as the situation continues.
It belongs to careful speech and writing — contracts, policies, formal promises.
How to attach it
| Situation | Form | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Verb | -는 한 | 노력하다 → 노력하는 한 |

| 있다 / 없다 | -는 한 | 일이 없는 한 |
| Ends in ㄹ | ㄹ drops | 만들다 → 만드는 한 |
| Spacing | 한 is a noun | 노력하는 한 |
| Adjectives | impossible | 좋은 한 does not work |

Compared with
-(으)면
-(으)면 sets a one-off condition; -는 한 requires it to hold continuously. The second is stronger and more binding.
노력하면 기회가 와요. (if you try) / 노력하는 한 기회가 옵니다. (as long as you keep trying)
-는 동안
-는 동안 marks a stretch of time; -는 한 marks a condition. One is about duration, the other about what must remain true.
제가 자는 동안 (while I sleep) / 제가 아는 한 (as far as I know)
제가 아는 한
A set phrase worth learning whole: “as far as I know.” It hedges a claim without weakening it much.
제가 아는 한 / 제가 알기로는
Watch out

Stems ending in ㄹ drop it before -는, as everywhere in the modifier system.

This construction takes verbs. An adjective has to be recast, usually as a negative verb form.
